The Lot-Dordogne Region

Your lasting impression will be one of colour, blue sky, red tile roofs, honey coloured centuries-old stone buildings, bathed in the glow of golden southern sunlight - creating lasting memories of a happy holiday!

This area of the Lot, marked by rolling hills dotted with sheep and forests of oak trees lined chasms, provides many opportunities for walking . The tourist office at St Germain de Bel Air sponsors walks around the locale every Friday morning. Ask us for a topographical map of the area with suggested routes for hiking, rambling, and bicycle riding - watch for sheep being moved along the road though!

There are cave paintings at Cougnac and Pech Merle, both within 20km. Here you can see the original painting studios of our ancestors 14,000 years ago.

A car is essential for sightseeing and touring - the Dordogne is a half hour away by car. You can canoe, kayak, walk, or swim.  There are numerous swimming lakes in the area - Gourdon, Cazals, Catus; the nearest is at St. Germain which is 6 km away. It also has two tennis courts.

The famous cliff village of Rocamadour, a mediaeval pilgrimage destination, is 30k distant - as is the town of Sarlat with its melange of architectural styles. Close at hand are chateaux, medieval war museums, bastide villages.

We strongly recommend you have both personal and car breakdown insurance for your holiday period.
